River Cruises

Experience the spellbinding combination of the mighty Zambezi River and the extravagance and gracious hospitality of the African Queen or African Princess river-boat cruise. Drive down the Royal Mile to the marina and board the vessel at the same spot where King George and Queen Elizabeth embarked and follow the same river route taken by them during their visit to Livingstone in 1947.

Exclusive Livingstone Island

Livingstone Island is located in the middle of the Zambezi River, on the edge of the Victoria Falls, where the water thunders down the 100m drop. It is here that Dr Livingstone first looked over the edge of the falls into the gorge below, and wrote: “scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight.” Access to this unique island is seasonal and depends entirely on the water flow in the Zambezi River.

Angling and Fly Fishing

The upper Zambezi is home to the Tiger Fish, rated as the finest sporting and fighting fish in the world as well as 15 species of Bream, including the Pink Happy, Three-spot Bream and the Nembwe as well as Yellow Fish, Barbel, Bottlenose, Squeaker and Labeo. In total there are over 75 species of fish lurking in these waters. Angling in this part of the world consists of fly-fishing, spinning and bait-fishing.

Victoria Falls Steam Railways Ltd

The Steam Locomotive 156 is a 10th Class originally belonging to the largest private railway network in the world, Zambezi Sawmills Limited.  It was used on the Mulobezi Line to pull logging carriages from the forests in Mulobezi to the railhead in Livingstone.  Guests will be picked up driven to the Railway museum, where, on arrival, they will be treated to a guided tour in the old locomotive shed before departure to the Victoria Falls Bridge.

Bridge Tours

Designed by Sir Ralph Freeman, who designed the Sydney Harbour Bridge, this engineering feat linking Zimbabwe and Zambia spans 152 metres.  It was Sir Cecil John Rhodes, who wanted the “spray of the Falls on the train carriages” that conceived the idea – even though he never visited the Falls and died before construction of the Bridge began.  You now have an opportunity to encounter her architecture and engineering by walking the historic catwalks as history is brought to life on a journey of discovery.

Microlight Flights

The African microlight experience combines the thrill of flight and the opportunity to experience the beauty of Africa in the open cockpit of the microlight. With the wind in your face, the exhilaration is surpassed only by the panorama that opens at your feet.  Fly through the spray of the falls and over the Mosi Oa Tunya National Park, fly along the mighty Zambezi River and view hippo and elephants from the air.  This truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Helicopter Flights

Discover the majesty of the Victoria Falls aboard a helicopter, an adventure you will never forget. The scenic beauty is dramatic as the helicopter dips and soars, bringing earth rushing to the fore and alternatively the sky to your fingertips.  You can only truly appreciate why this flight is called the “Flight of Angels” when you witness the power of the Victoria Falls from the air.

Quad Biking

Encounter the African bush from a different point of view.  Each of the nature trails that starts from Batoka Land has been designed to optimise your experience . The trails are conducted at a leisurely pace to suit anyone. Safety and respect for the environment is the primary concern.  No previous experience is required and full training with some practice laps is done before you head out on your 4x4 adventure.

Chobe National Park, Botswana

Celebrate the unexpected surprises that lie just around the next thorn bush or beyond the next horizon, and experience the ancient drama of Africa’s greatest wildlife phenomenon.  Visit one of the two places in the world where four countries meet in the middle of a river. Cruise along the banks past several islands, enjoying sightings of vast elephant herds and other wildlife, grazing along the shores or embark on an open 4x4 safari to explore the scenic wilderness of Chobe.

Exciting 4x4 Rhino Safari

The Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park is situated along the upper Zambezi. It includes the Victoria Falls, and stretches about 12km upriver , home to crocodile and hippo. Migrating elephant can often be seen. This reserve is densely populated with game and is home to numerous antelope species, zebra, giraffe, buffalo and white rhino, providing guests with an unforgettable sight of animals in the wild.

Horseback Safaris

One of the finest ways to experience the bush is on horseback. There is a chance to see small game such as bushbuck or duiker, plus hippos and crocodiles along the river, and in the dry season elephants. There is also a wide variety of bird life. All rides are led by experienced riders/guides and all riding abilities are catered for. Guests are taken out on either experienced or novice rides so that everyone in the group is of a similar experience.

Elephant Back Safaris

Surely, this is one of the most exciting and unique ways of going on safari. It’s an exhilarating elephant experience rather than just an elephant ride. The six huge, but gentle elephants, offer their broad grey backs to two riders at a time, as the ultimate viewpoint from which to get a closer look at the game. The area is home to wild elephant, white rhino, giraffe, hippo, buffalo, waterbuck, impala, zebra and prolific birdlife.

Walking With Elephants
Take a glimpse into a day in the life of an African Elephant.  Walk through some of Zambia’s most pristine scenery as the elephants go about their day roaming free in the bush to browse, play, socialize and sometimes swim.  This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to understand this mighty beast’s incredible intelligence and learn about our Elephants as well as the African bush.

‘4x4’ Game Safari On Water

This is a wildlife river safari, catering specifically for nature lovers as opposed to adrenaline seekers. On board you’ll experience exclusivity, adventure, excellent game and bird viewing, as well as exceptional photographic opportunities of the Zambezi River.  The specially designed safari boats have the unique ability of traversing the rapids safely and comfortably and can operate in water as shallow as 200 mm. This is the water equivalent to a 4x4 game drive on land.

Canoe Safaris

What better way to discover the peace and tranquillity of the Zambezi River than in a two-person canoe.  Experience the contrasts of this great river as you paddle leisurely with the current. Catch a glimpse of a pied kingfisher darting along the river banks, listen to the haunting call of the Fish Eagle and observe elephants bathing in the cool water.  Take time to explore the many islands along this great waterway.

Sunset Drift

Imagine drifting down the upper Zambezi, drinking wine and encountering wildlife along the way.  View waterbuck and many species of wildlife coming down to quench their thirst. Hear the grunt of hippo and know that you are truly in the heart of Africa.  This is the ultimate combination of game viewing and relaxation!  The trip ends with a drive through the national park.

White Water Rafting

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to raft what is considered the wildest one-day white water rafting experience in the world.  Rafting starts with rapid number 1 (Paddy’s Folly) wit the top section of the Batoka Gorge (rapids 1-10) featuring the greatest concentration of grade four and five rapids anywhere in the world.  The bottom section (rapids 11 to 21) is gentler in nature, except for the world famous rapid 18, affectionately known as “Oblivion”.

Jet-Boat Extreme

Feel the wind in your hair and the cooling spray as you hurtle along at over 80km/h towards a series of spine-chilling rapids, buzzing rocks and jet-spinning on the mighty Zambezi River, in the spectacular Batoka Gorge below the Victoria Falls. These 6m-long jet-propelled boats with Chevy engines, equating to an awesome 338hp, are capable of taking 11 passengers. These jet-boats “play” between rapids 23 and “open season” which is approximately rapid 27.

Jet-Boat – Heli Combo

This option follows the jet-boat itinerary, but includes a thrilling helicopter transfer from the helipad after your “stabilising drinks”. The pilot then treats you to a spectacular flight at water level, then up out the gorge past sheer cliffs, then up, out of the gorge at tree top level, with a short ‘flight of the angels’ above the Victoria Falls before landing at Maramba airstrip, This activity combines numerous exciting experiences!

Abseiling, Gorge Swing And Flying Fox

Over the edge!  Like an alpine mountaineer, abseil backwards or rap-jump forwards down the gorge, for approximately 50m.  Or launch yourself off the edge in a full body harness and free fall for 53 metres, the gorge swing ends with numerous pendulum swings before you are lowered into the gorge for your walk out.  For a not-so-scary experience, the Flying Fox is a cable-slide allowing you a view of the gorge from a seated or face-down flying position.

Bungee Jumping

“Five, four, three, two, one, bungeeee!”  At 111 meters, it's one of the highest commercial jumps in the world, so hurling yourself off the Victoria Falls Bridge is definitely for adventure thrill-seekers only!  With the Victoria Falls behind you and the mighty Zambezi River below you, this is not just any bridge and the jump is certainly not for the faint-hearted!  Choose between a single jump on your own or a tandem jump with your partner.
